Beautiful But Toxic Blue Waters

I understand the allure of gorgeous aqua blue waters but this recent article (Instagram Influencers Flocking to Toxic Bright Blue Lake as Government Warns Stay Away) is definitely making me think twice and giving me ideas for a new story.

The “Novosibirsk Maldives” lake is a body of water located near the city of Novosibirsk in Siberia, Russia. The lake’s bright blue water has earned the nickname “Maldives.” While the water make look it would be perfect for your health, the blue color is the result of ash dumped into the lake from a nearby coal plant. The power plant claims the water isn’t poisonous but officials advise everyone to stay away from the water.

This gave me the idea of exploring the idea of how looks can be deceiving.

The private lagoon at the all-inclusive vacation resort looks relaxing and romantic but everyone who takes a dip ends up dead.

Or

A power plant illegally dumps its waste into the neighboring lake and everyone thinks the lake is harmless until a group of children are diagnosed with cancer after spending a week in the lake during summer camp.

Or

Maybe you flip this idea and instead, the mysterious blue waters have healing powers and cure people.

Who wants to talk more about how you can use this idea in your current or next story?
