This recent article (Himalayas’ ‘Skeleton Lake’ Investigated with DNA Testing and the Results Are Weird) made me think of all of the real-life cases that inspired forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs to create the characters and write for Bones (Fox).
A group of scientists from around the world have been studying the lake containing hundreds of skeletons. At first the researchers thought that one catastrophic even killed such a large amount of people but after studying the DNA of 38 of the skeletons, the scientists discovered that they didn’t all die at once.
While the exact cause of death of for the people buried in the lake is still unknown, some researchers think the high altitude may have been a factor.
I could see this being the setting for a creepy horror film, a thriller crime drama or a murder mystery.
What if two campers stumble upon a pristine lake only to discover it is full of skeletons?
Or
The search for a missing family turns ends in recovery mission when their bodies are discovered in a lake.
Or
A serial killer has found the perfect place to dispose of his victims until someone accidentally finds it.
Or
An investigator looking for the reason why a small town turned into a ghost town seemingly overnight and discovers the truth in the lake at the center of town.
Who wants to talk more about how you can use this idea in your current or next story?
